Every summer the Joffrey Ballet School in New York City accepts auditions for its annual Summer Intensive Programs. The programs include two- to four-week camps where ballet students have the chance to expand their skills and learn new steps. Students from dance studios across the country audition for the few spots available in the early winter. “It was really a pleasant surprise being chosen,” Jasmine said. “It was a huge dream that I would be able to go to Joffrey.”. Jasmine has come a long way from twirling around in circles at the local recreation department’s Tippy Tunes program at age 2. By age 5, she was taking classes at the Delta Ballet Academy in Antioch. She has played the lead role as Clara in the “Nutcracker” presented by the Brentwood Ballet Co. She is currently enrolled in ballet classes at the East County Performing Arts Center.
